All Immigrant Visa cases and interviews in Brazil are conducted only at the immigrant Visa Unit in the Consulate in Rio de Janeiro.
We strongly recommend that you visit the web sites: www.embaixadaamericana.org.br and www.uscis.gov for more detailed information.
If you have questions or seek specific information related to an immigrant visa that cannot be answered on the website, please send an e-mail to immigrationrio@state.gov. Emailing is the most efficient means of contacting the Immigrant Visa Unit in the Consulate in Rio.
Green card lottery: For the current DV Lottery, BRAZILIAN natives are NOT eligible to apply because Brazil sent a total of more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. over the period of the previous five years. The last time Brazil participated in the DV program was in 2006 (DV2007). For further information on DV Lottery, please visit US Department of State web site at: www.travel.state.gov e www.unitedstatesvisas.gov.
"To immigrate" means to take up permanent residence in the United States. It means you are going to the United States to live permanently. If you go to the U.S. for work or study, even if such a stay is for several years, you are not immigrating and should apply for a non-immigrant temporary visa.
