The following categories of applicants are qualified for the waiver of interview:
Applicants over the age of 80
Applicants over 80 years of age applying for B-2 or B-1/B-2 do not need to schedule an appointment and are generally not required to come to the Embassy or Consulate for an interview or fingerprints, though the consular section reserves the right to call applicants in if necessary. The applicant or a proxy (only a close relative - identification card will be checked) may drop off the complete application at the consular section during the following hours:
Brasilia: 2:00pm to 3:00pm
Rio de Janeiro: 8:00 am to 11:00 am
São Paulo: 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm
Recife: 10:00 am to 11:00 am

A valid passport with at least six months validity from the date of the interview.

Original Citibank receipt for the non-refundable visa application fee for each applicant. All fees must be paid in Reais at Citibank (Please be advised, It is necessary to present a photocopy or original of each applicant's passport at Citibank when paying the fee.)
At posts that use courier services, the applicant or proxy will need to pay the courier service for delivery of the passport before leaving. In cases where the applicant is renewing a business and tourist visa (B-1/B-2), the applicant or proxy will need to pay the additional visa fee (if applicable - please click on this link to check the current amount of all fees) before leaving the Embassy or Consulate.
Holders of Diplomatic or Official Passports
Holders of Diplomatic or Official Passports and members of International Organizations traveling on an official mission (visa types A-1, A-2, C-2, C-3, G-1, G-2, G-3 and G-4) do not need to pay the visa application fee but are required to present:

Bring a diplomatic note from the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) or the appropriate embassy or international organization.
NOTE: Holders of Diplomatic passports who are are requesting a visa in another visa category (tourism, student, etc) do not have to schedule an appointment , pay the visa application fee or present a diplomatic note, but must come to the Embassy or Consulate to submit their documents, have their fingerprints scanned, and have an interview with a Consular Officer.

Note: The US Consulate in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro have special programs designed to facilitate the interview process for certain groups, such as minors under 14 years old, qualifying business travelers renewing their visas, students, journalists, athletes, entertainers, etc... All other visa applicants must schedule an appointment to come to the Embassy or Consulate to be personally interviewed.
